Vibram FiveFingers V-Trail

Vibram's latest offering for minimalist mountain runners is called FiveFingers V-Trail. This model is an evolution of the popular Spyridon. They further reduce weight and improve protection on all types of terrain.

The Italian firm maintains its commitment to its popular Vibram Megagrip compound, a material that is not only used in other mountain models, such as the FiveFingers Trek Ascent, but is also present in the soles of numerous cushioned shoes.

The main characteristic of this external compound is that it improves grip on dry and wet surfaces while maintaining a high degree of durability.

What does change in the V-Trail is the pattern of the sole. The "scales" of the Spyridon give way to small triangular studs of just 2 millimeters. They are located very close together to avoid leaving unprotected areas. This improvement is subtle but significant, previous Vibram mountain models left areas too exposed to stones, offering uneven protection.

It is a completely flat shoe with a total thickness of 7 millimeters, five belong to the Megagrip external part and the other two to a non-removable EVA rubber inner insole.

They offer a high degree of flexibility.

More breathable and versatile fabric
The changes continue in the upper.

In this case we find a mixture of polyester and elastane, on a practical level this new combination of materials provides greater lightness, breathability and comfort. It also adds round laces that adjust easily and quickly using a "clip".

They weigh 180 grams, which represents a 30 gram reduction compared to the Spyridon model.
They are more breathable.
The fabric is slightly elastic and more adaptable. Increases fit and comfort.
You can use the V-Trail both in summer and winter as long as you do not live in a humid and cold area. In that case, I recommend the Spyridon MR Elite, they are waterproof and offer superior thermal protection.

Who are they recommended for?
Although this model incorporates changes to improve protection, you should not forget that it is a completely minimalist shoe.

They are only suitable for runners well adapted "to the stones" or for those who want to take the step very slowly and progressively. In the mountains it is especially important to have a good technical and adaptation level before starting to run with this type of footwear.
